Controlling thoughts and emotions is a difficult task. Have you ever tried not to think about a yellow banana? Or attempted to suppress nerves while bungee jumping? If so, you're well aware of the challenge. This mini-course is designed for those attending the workshop
"Don't Think About a Yellow Banana - Managing Thoughts, Feelings, and Behaviors in Times of Change." To optimize your workshop experience, you'll have the chance to undertake up to three preliminary tasks, each connected to the three key segments of the presentation:
1. Acknowledging the difficulty of influencing thoughts and feelings.
2. Emphasizing the power of shaping your behaviors.
3. Identifying the behaviors you wish to transform, guided by your core values.
The course structure draws inspiration from the Serenity Prayer: "Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference." Although fundamentally a religious prayer, its principles extend to atheists as well. The first challenge revolves around accepting and distancing yourself from intrusive thoughts and emotions. The second focuses on empowering you to influence what you can control: your behaviors. This means prioritizing actions aligned with your values, irrespective of your emotional state. The final challenge delves into understanding the boundary between acceptance and proactive action, all supported by your values. To gain further insights, envision yourself on the last day at your current job.
